An election is considered the prime pillar of democracy .Not only for the country but the election can also be conducted in any case where public opinion matter the most . An election is also defined as a decision- making process within a group of people sharing similar interest. For example in school for choosing head boy or head girl election is conducted and a person who gets the highest votes becomes a head boy or head girl . This is how democratic government works.
Election gives us power to choose the best leader in every session if one is not performing up to the mark he can be replaced in the next voting session. We need proper awareness for making the right decision. Common men have many responsibilities in their personal and professional lives. It is only an election that helps people for choosing the leaders to run the country properly.
Types of election:-
Two types of elections are held in India (regular after every 5 years) Lok Sabha Assembly Election.
Vidhan sabha assembly elections.
After 5 years the term of all the elected representatives come to an end, elections are held in all constituency. Sometimes election is held only for one constituency to fill the vacancy caused by the death or resignation of a member this is called by- election.
Characteristics of Election:-
In a democratic country every person has the right to showcase his political views this is called suffrage. It is the prime elements of the election going to the step ahead, we need to find out who can cast their votes. People of all ages will not be able to commend the importance of votings and choosing the leaders . For this only to be mature enough to understand the situation of a country. This is why the country’s voting authority has set the minimum voting age 18 years. In India , people entering their adulthood at the age of 18 can cast their votes .
The second phase is to choose the candidates who can compete in a voting sessions and do campaigns. The electorate authority has set a list of guidelines that a candidate has to follow to register his name as a nominee. It happens in the public office where the candidates will have to file the nomination. Furthermore ,testimonials(character reference) and endorsement(a form of public support or approval) are provided in support of the candidates who have filed their nominations.
The election commission sets the platform where the voting session will be carried in different states. Based on the result of political decision will be taken . Once all the votes are cast , ballot boxes are opened and all the votes are counted.The digital ballot panels can also count votes.
The electoral body will make decision regarding scheduling and conducting votes.
Election campaign in India
Political parties in India gear up for the election campaign just before the start of the election. The campaign is started by organising mammoth rallies, large public meeting, door to door canvassing , extravagant road show extra. Campaign is also done throw mass advertising via print and electronics media .
Newspapers radio, televisions extra highly used for the election campaign highlighting the achievement, policies and promises of the political parties. With the availability of most affordable internet services, elections campaign have gone digital and made their way to social media platform also.
Importance of election:-
During an election , each and every vote has a high significance hence it is important that it is cast sensible to the right candidates. People should be aware about the electoral process.
Election awareness educates people about the political parties, their manifestos and the background of the candidates so that they make up a right decisions and vote for the deserving candidates.
Election awareness also educates people about the importance of voting and how it can be used for their welfare, growth and development. It also makes them aware about the living and deceptive election campaign of the political parties and how not to fall prey to cash, liquor or gifts lieu of the vote.

Election awareness is very important to motivate people so that they take part in electrol process and give their helping hand to build a healthy democracy in the country .
