Gratitude means thankfulness, counting your blessings, noticing simple pleasures, and acknowledging everything that you receive. Gratitude shifts your focus from what your life lacks to the abundance that is already present. Being thankful makes people happier; it strengthens relationships, improves health, and reduces stress.
The benefits of practicing gratitude are endless. People who regularly practice gratitude by taking time to notice and reflect upon the things they’re thankful for, experience more positive emotions and express more compassion and kindness. And gratitude doesn’t need to be reserved only for special occasions.
Likewise, people who are not thanked may not be expected to provide reciprocation in the future. The expression of gratitude is beneficial for both individuals and society.
Gratitude is simply cultivating a genuine appreciation for what we already have. They can be small things: maybe your friend said something nice to you or maybe your teacher appreciates you. It is easy to take this experience for granted. But training yourself to notice these things and feel grateful for them can help increase your happiness.
Whenever you receive any gift from anyone, no matter how small it may be, remember the love behind it and don’t judge the gift by its appearance. Have a deep sense of gratitude for whatever you receive in life in whatever form it may be.
“Be thankful for what you have! your life, no matter how bad you think it is, is someone else’s fairy tale. Wale Ayeni
